Psalm 5

Psa. 5:0 To the Chief Musician. With flutes. A Psalm of David.
Psa. 5:1 Give ear to my words, O LORD,
        Consider my meditation.
God knows your thoughts. Even when we meditate on Him and the things of the kingdom He is paying attention. Our Father is one that is concerned about the littlest details of our lives. He is right there with you all the time.
Psa. 5:2 Give heed to the voice of my cry,
        My King and my God,
        For to You I will pray.
Psa. 5:3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD;
        In the morning I will direct it to You,
        And I will look up.
You have to love and admire the relationship David had with the LORD. David is certain that the Lord will hear his voice when he prays and worships. The other part of this relationship is David's confidence that He will talk to Him in the morning.
Psa. 5:4 For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,
        Nor shall evil dwell with You.
Psa. 5:5 The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;
        You hate all workers of iniquity.
Psa. 5:6 You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;
        The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
Some might say that God is tolerant of the evil, He is not. He is, however, long suffering which is a big difference from tolerant. God still hates evil, He changes not, but He is patient to wait. Several things are listed here and none of them are good. Eventually, the Lord will deal with those who do evil things.
Psa. 5:7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;
        In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.
This is something the Lord just spoke to me on Saturday morning; Passionate for His Presence-Positioned for His Purpose. David certainly was someone who was passionate for the presence of God. He pursued it all the days of his life and as a result of this it positioned him in the purposes of God.
Psa. 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies;
        Make Your way straight before my face.
This is an interesting statement to me, David’s request is to be lead in righteousness because of his enemies. When you are pursued by enemies it is in that time more than ever that you need to stay the course. David was always hearing what others were saying about him and he needed the Lord to keep him on track.
Psa. 5:9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;
        Their inward part is destruction;
        Their throat is an open tomb;
        They flatter with their tongue.
Psa. 5:10 Pronounce them guilty, O God!
        Let them fall by their own counsels;
        Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,
        For they have rebelled against You.
When people get off the correct path it shows up int heir speech. They take counsel in the wrong place and eventually they are in rebellion. Ultimately, they have rebelled against the Lord.
Psa. 5:11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
        Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
        Let those also who love Your name
        Be joyful in You.
Psa. 5:12 For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;
        With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
Oh, but David has a different mindset. Let those who trust in the Lord rejoice, let them shout for joy because it is the Lord who will defend them. You are surrounded by the Lord as a shield. How does He do this? He puts more favor on you. There have been times when people have done us wrong and in those times it seems like we get crazy favor. David’s wife found this out and so did her father Saul. When you are called to be king you are called! Not everyone is going to be happy with that but it does not matter. The Lord will bless the righteous, those who love Your name will be joyful in You.
